Power outage causes water problems in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – According to city officials, a power outage at a water treatment plant earlier Monday morning resulted in a pump failure.

Officials say the city taps into a land reservoir in the 5th Council District, but that reservoir will soon be empty.

The municipality is expected to soon issue guidance on boiling water.

City officials have not yet provided a timeline for repairing the pump.

So far, some residents have reported having low water pressure or no water at all.

Pump failures could also affect areas around Richmond, such as Chesterfield. Henrico city officials say their water has not been affected.
