Man questioned over Dumfries woman’s death in 2009 in Crete

Mr. Porter said the questioning of the man was the “biggest breakthrough” in the case in 16 years.

He said the family was now confirming the next steps with their lawyer and the authorities in Crete.

Mr. Porter said he had confidence in the Greek system, adding that it would be “life-changing” if it went to trial.

“For years you think ‘should I give up’ because there’s nothing else we can do,” he said.

“It’s going to be life-changing. First of all, it’s about our mother and her justice, but this is almost two decades of our lives, and of course we chose to fight for it, but it’s amazing how much it consumes you .

“So it would be great to just finally put her to rest and allow us, the family as individuals, to fully process it and grieve properly.”
