Diontae Johnson waived: Texans part ways with wide receiver after 2 games

Diontae Johnson played two games with the Texans. The team waived him Tuesday.

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans signed receiver Diontae Johnson following Tank Dell’s season-ending injury. Today they let him go.

The Texans announced Tuesday that the team waived Johnson. At this time, it is not clear why he was released.

Houston claimed Johnson off waivers from Baltimore on December 23. He played in the Texans’ 32-12 win over the LA Chargers on Saturday, catching a pass for 12 yards. In his only other action as a member of the Texans, Johnson caught two passes for 12 yards against the Titans.

Johnson has been in the league since 2019 and spent five seasons with the Steelers before splitting time between Carolina, Baltimore and Houston this year.

Johnson’s biggest year of production came with Pittsburgh, where his best season was 2021. That year, he caught 107 passes for 1,161 yards and 8 touchdowns.

His release leaves Houston with a wide receiving group of Nico Collins, Robert Woods, Xavier Hutchinson and John Metchie.

Another move the team made today – they placed tight end Cade Stover on the injured list. Stover played in the game against the Chargers and caught four passes for 28 yards.
