LIVONIA, La. (WAFB) – Authorities are investigating a stabbing that happened Tuesday morning at Livonia High School just before school was set to begin.

According to the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board, the incident happened on the school campus at 8. Livonia High School is located on LA-78 just off Highway 190 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

The WAFB I-TEAM has learned that both the Livonia Police Department and the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

Sources said a 15-year-old student used a large folding knife to stab another 15-year-old student as they lined up to go through a metal detector before entering campus to start their school day.

The school board confirmed that resource officers quickly arrested the student who stabbed the other student in the arm, while school administrators secured the campus by following lockdown procedures, calling an ambulance and alerting authorities.

Emergency officials rushed the student who was stabbed to a hospital, where he is in stable condition, according to the school board.

Sources said the student was bleeding profusely but is expected to survive.

School officials confirmed that classes were dismissed for students and all students remained on lockdown until they were sent home.

Livonia High School is canceling classes and dismissing students for the day after a student was stabbed earlier this morning.
