Lions QB evaluated for concussion, returns

game

The Detroit Lions lost quarterback Jared Goff to an injury for a drive in the NFC Divisional Round matchup with the Washington Commanders.

Goff, after throwing an interception to the Commanders’ Quan Martin, was hit high by defensive end Frankie Luvu as Martin returned the pick for a touchdown.

He went into the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion before returning to Lions sideline on the following drive.

Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, signed last month after spending most of the year coaching his high school alma mater to a Florida state title, came in and led a scoring drive, though he completed only one pass.

The Lions had already lost one player to injury in the first half – the team quickly announced that defensive back Amik Robertson is out with an elbow injury.

The Lions came into the game relatively healthy, by their standards. They got running back David Montgomery back from a sprained MCL to rejoin the backfield, but are without starting right guard Kevin Zeitler (hamstring).

The Lions have been shorthanded on defense with 11 players on injured reserve, including key contributors like defensive linemen Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeill and cornerback Carlton Davis III.

The winner between the Lions and the Commanders will advance to the NFC Championship game next Sunday. If the Lions win, they will host the winner of the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams, who play on Sunday.
