Stranded drivers on I-78 stand outside vehicles during hours-long snow shutdown | Northampton County

WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Jerome Westpoint was among the drivers stuck in traffic for hours in the snow on I-78 West near the Easton exit.

“I found a way out,” Westpoint said. “Now it’s just trying to take these side roads home that aren’t plowed,” Westpoint said.

State police said there was a jackknifed tractor trailer.

According to the police, there were no injuries.

Westpoint was returning to Bethlehem from Jersey City.

“Jersey did a very good job, the roads were salted. When you get closer to PA that’s when you start getting into slush and it’s like inches of snow,” Westpoint said.

Traffic was bumper-to-bumper for hours before it cleared around 7:30 p.m

With nowhere to go, people could be seen standing outside their vehicles on the highway.

“People using the bathroom, they’ve been out here so long,” Westpoint said.

He said people were driving fast in the snow before he reached the Easton area.

“People are going 50, 60 and I’ve seen three cars either flip over on their side or flip over,” Westpoint said.

Daniel Green was out driving on local roads in Easton.

“We just got bombarded,” Green said.

Green stopped at Turkey Hill in Williams Township to refuel.

“I’m going to go get the family some food, hopefully make it back in one piece,” Green said.

Green does not advise anyone to go out in weather like this.

“Stay home, relax, family time,” Green said.
