Alexander Zverev turned up his dry sense of humor after his four-set victory over Tommy Paul.

Zverev revealed that he had asked to play the night match tonight in place of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

“I know Novak vs. Carlos is the match to watch, probably in the tournament. I asked for a night match, but it was quickly denied,” Zverev revealed to Jim Courier.

He also stated that fans should just go home after watching him and Paul clash.

“Boring match. There’s no reason to stay here after you’ve seen Zverev against Paul,” Zverev said as laughter erupted around Rod Laver Arena.

“Two of the best players to ever touch a tennis racket, Novak is the greatest ever right now. Carlos will be one of them when he hangs it up, so it’s a clash of generations.

“They’ve played grand slam finals before, the Olympic finals last year, so it’s a privilege to witness it here in Australia.

“Please enjoy it and I think it will be a great match.”
