Trump will rename the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘American Gulf’ among 1st executive order actions

WASHINGTON — Among the first orders to be signed by President-elect Donald Trump will be one to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of the United States.”

During his January press conference at Mar-A-Lago, Trump stated that he would change the name, saying that it is currently run by cartels and that “it is ours.”

President-elect Trump outlines his goals for acquiring new territory for the United States. He also says he wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

“We’re going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory, the Gulf of America,” Trump said. “What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate. And Mexico needs to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country.”

Presidents have the authority to rename geographic regions and functions via executive order.
