Panhandle of Texas faces intense snow flurries, near zero visibility with whiteout conditions

Amarillo, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo issued a snow flurry warning for parts of the Texas Panhandle until 2:45 PM CST Monday. The warning covers northern Carson, southern Hutchinson, northwestern Gray, northeastern Potter, southwestern Roberts and southeastern Moore counties.

According to the NWS, the blizzard was spotted around 14:12 CST along a line extending from seven miles east of Masterson to 19 miles northwest of Codman. The storm is moving south at 20 mph, bringing intense bursts of heavy snow, blowing snow and wind gusts above 35 mph. Visibility is expected to drop to less than a quarter of a mile, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Areas including Pampa, Borger, Fritch, Skellytown, Sanford, Codman and Lake Meredith are likely to be affected.

Residents are encouraged to reduce speed, use headlights and avoid unnecessary driving. Blowing snow can create sudden whiteout conditions, making roads dangerous within minutes.
