Nottingham Forest ‘submit £22m Yoane Wissa bid’ and get immediate response | Football | Sport

Nottingham Forest have reportedly made a £22m bid for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side continue their push for Champions League qualification.

The French striker has impressed in front of goal for the Bees this season, finding the net 11 times in the Premier League and providing two assists in 20 games for the west London outfit.

The 28-year-old’s performances have clearly not gone under the radar, with Wissa’s displays catching the eye of their top rivals Forest.

According to The Athletic , Forest have made an official bid to test the waters at the Gtech Community Stadium by offering a deal worth £22m.

But their offer is set to be rejected by Brentford as it falls ‘significantly below’ their value of their first-choice striker. The DR Congo international’s contract expires in June 2026, but there are no concerns regarding his satisfaction with life at Brentford.

Wissa has proven to be an important member of the squad since signing from French side Lorient in August 2021.

Since his move to the capital, he has scored 41 goals in 133 games and created nine assists – the majority of which have come since he replaced Ivan Toney as Thomas Frank’s leading No. 9.

He spent most of his early career playing in the French lower leagues with Chateauroux and Angers before linking up with the Ligue 1 side.

His journey to prominence is similar to that of teammate Bryan Mbeumo, who is also attracting interest ahead of a potentially big-money move.

Mbeumo, 25, has formed a lethal front three with Wissa and Kevin Schade and the Cameroonian has fired 13 goals for his side this season.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle have all been credited with an interest in signing the winger, who Brentford value at around £60m.

If they are unable to agree a fee for Wissa, Forest are prepared to consider other options as they look to sign another striker to provide competition for Chris Wood, who has scored 14 Premier League goals League this season.

Nuno’s men are currently third in the Premier League standings and retain a realistic chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League for the first time since the competition was founded in 1992.

They are currently on 44 points from 22 games and hold a six-point gap over sixth-placed Newcastle, with Chelsea and Manchester City also behind them.

But there is some recognition that an injury to their Wood, their main source of goals, after January could result in a dip from their impressive form, having won seven of their last eight games.

Turkish outlet Fotospor claim they have an interest in Galatasaray striker Baris Yilmaz, but the Super Lig champions are unwilling to let him leave in January.
