Schools announce plans as winter weather heads to Grand Strand, Pee Dee

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Local school districts are making plans as a round of winter weather heads toward the Grand Strand and Pee Dee this week.

HORRY GEORGETOWN TECHNICAL COLLEGE

The college will operate normally on Tuesdays, but will close at 16.00 and continue classes on Wednesday through online and virtual classes. Faculty, staff, and students will not report to classes, clinics, internships, or other activities on campus after 1 p.m. 16 on Tuesday and will not report on Wednesday either.

DARLINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

UVVU will have early dismissal on Tuesday and all after-schools have been cancelled.

Primary schools: 11:25

Middle School: 12:45 p.m

Colleges: 1 p.m

Pate Elementary, Southside Early Childhood Center, Darlington County Intervention School and special needs students will be dismissed slightly earlier. A full schedule can be seen here.

GEORGETOWN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

The district will operate on a half-day schedule Tuesday with the following dismissal times:

Primary schools: 11.00

Middle School: 11:15am

Middle and high schools: 12.15 p.m

All after-school activities, including athletic contests and practices, have been canceled or postponed until Tuesday, January 21, 2025. In addition, the GCSD Board Work Session scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. GCSD also said a decision on Wednesday will be announced Tuesday afternoon.

MARION COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

MCSD will operate as normal on Tuesday and all after school activities are cancelled.

FLORENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT THREE

FSD3 announced it will operate on a two-hour delay for students on Tuesday, but staff should still report at regular times. All after school activities on Tuesday have been cancelled.

FSD3 schools will be closed on Wednesday, with a makeup day to be announced at a later date.

FLORENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE

Tuesday 21 January: All schools will operate with a two-hour delay. All after-school activities are cancelled. All employees will report to work at their fixed time.

Wednesday 22 January: All schools will function on an eLearning day. The students do not report to school. Teachers will be available for assistance using the Schoology platform.
