Two CCSD elementary schools recognized by the Georgia Department of Education | City news

Timothy Road Elementary School in the Clarke County School District has been named a Title 1 Reward School by the Georgia Department of Education for its high student achievement, according to a news release from CCSD. Whit Davis Elementary School was also named a Comprehensive Support and Improvement Progress school by the DOE.

The DOE released its 2023-24 lists of Title 1 Distinguished and Rewards schools, which are determined by Georgia Milestones Assessment system scores from the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years. Timothy Road was named a Title 1 Reward School based on its assessment results.

“I am incredibly proud of the students, staff and administration at Timothy Road Elementary for their remarkable achievement,” CCSD Deputy Superintendent of Academics and Student Support Jennifer Scott said in the release. “This recognition as a Title I Rewards School highlights their commitment to academic excellence and their dedication to ensuring that each student reaches their full potential.”

Reward schools are among the highest-improving 5% of Title I school-wide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools when comparing content mastery scores from the 2021-22 and 2022-23 statewide assessments.

Timothy Road showed a nearly 12-point increase in its overall Content Mastery score from 2021-22 to 2022-23. They improved from 67.7 to 79.3 to place them on the Title 1 award list. They received an overall math Content Mastery score of 87.8 and an overall ELA score of 79.6. In 2023-24, their overall Content Mastery score rose to 80.4.

Schools must be Title 1 to be eligible for the Distinguished and Reward designations and not currently identified as being in need of additional state aid for improvement. All schools in CCSD are classified as Title 1 schools.

Title 1 status is determined by a percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch according to their household income, according to the news release.

Whit Davis Elementary school named CSI progress school by Georgia DOE

Schools such as Whit Davis that receive additional resources and guidance to improve performance and demonstrate a 5% increase in the Content Mastery Index from 2022-23 and 2023-24 and a score of 80 or higher on at least one of the other three components are eligible for the CSI Progress School designation.

Whit Davis had a nearly 12-point increase in its overall Content Mastery score from 36.5 to 48.3, putting the school among 52 others across the state recognized as CSI Progress Schools.

“I applaud the tremendous progress that the students of Whit Davis Elementary have made,” Scott said in the release. “Their recognition as a CSI Progress School reflects the tough words of employees and management, resilience and commitment to growth. This improvement demonstrates what is possible when all stakeholders remain dedicated to student success.”
