Texas basketball (12-6, 1-4 SEC) ended a grueling opening stretch of conference play with an 84-60 road loss at Florida on Saturday.

With little room for error, the Longhorns will look to bolster their NCAA Tournament case in a more manageable slate of games, starting with a visit from No. 24 Missouri on Tuesday (8 p.m., SEC Network). After playing four ranked teams in its first five SEC games, Texas faces three ranked foes over the next six, with none of those teams ranked higher than No. 13 at Texas A&M.

The Longhorns, who are third in the SEC in shooting at 49%, had their second-worst shooting game of the year at 36.4% in the loss to Florida. They were also outscored 41-33 and have yet to win the rebounding game in an SEC game. Can Texas bounce back behind freshman guard Tre Johnson, who leads the team in scoring and had a team-high 16 points in the loss to Florida?

Here’s what you need to know about the SEC matchup against Missouri (15-3, 4-1).

Ze’Rik Onyema: Big night in the paint

With a battered start, Kadin Shedrick was held to one rebound and no points in 13 minutes against Florida, forward Ze’Rik Onyema had his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes. The 6-foot-9, 235-pound senior from El Paso, who is in his second season at Texas since transferring from UTEP, has averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11 minutes a game this season.

Jordan Pope: Hot guard cools off

After averaging a team-high 20.7 points in his previous seven games, guard Jordan Pope had a season-low two points in 28 minutes against Florida. He went 0-for-7 from the floor, coinciding with the poor shooting night from Texas. The Longhorns made just four of 16 shots from behind the 3-point line, but Pope and the other Texas shooters could get right against a Missouri team that ranks 14th in the 16-team SEC by allowing opponents to make 34.5% of their 3-point shooting.

Missouri Tigers: SEC’s Biggest Surprise?

Duke transfer Mark Mitchell, a versatile 6-9, 235-pound wing, leads the Tigers in scoring (13.8) and rebounds (4.9) while shooting 50% from the floor. He also capped a turnaround season for Missouri, which went 8-24 last season while missing the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in the past 11 years. But the Tigers have feasted on an easy schedule in the nation’s toughest conference; they have split their two SEC games against ranked teams with a loss to Auburn and a win over Florida and will face six ranked foes in seven games after Tuesday’s visit to Texas.

Texas vs Missouri prediction

Texas. It feels like a must-win for the Longhorns if they want to stay on the NCAA Tournament radar, and it’s a good matchup for the home team. Missouri can light up the scoreboard, ranking second in the SEC with a 49.2 shooting percentage, but the Tigers don’t rebound well and rank in the bottom half of the conference in most defensive categories.
