Scarlett Johansson ‘Was Genuinely So Shocked’ by Colin Jost’s Roast Beef Sandwich Joke on ‘SNL’

Scarlett Johansson knew that Colin Jost, her husband, was going to crack some weird jokes about her this Christmas SNL episode – but apparently she wasn’t as completely prepared as she might have thought. But don’t worry, it’s all still fun.

Every year, Weekend Update hosts Jost and Michael Che have a tradition of writing jokes to each other, and they are not allowed to see the jokes beforehand. So neither Jost nor Johansson knew in advance that he was going to read a joke that, for example, compared Johansson’s vagina to a roast beef sandwich. Jost told Jimmy Fallon further The Tonight Show Jan. 20, that despite getting a quick taste of what was to come, Johansson was actually “really so shocked” when she heard the set itself.

“(SNL team members) said, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little vagina joke at some point?'” Jost said, explaining the heads-up Johansson got before the episode. “She said, ‘Well, whatever, I’m open to it.'” But for Jost, it was the opposite, he said. “I didn’t know where it was going, and then the graphics came up for Arby’s.”
