Live Updates: President Trump demands apology from bishop who used sermon to plead for mercy

Hi I am Tessa Flemmingjoins you tonight with the latest from Donald Trumpsecond period.

Now for the latest, in which Trump has asked for an apology from a bishop who made a pointed plea for “grace” from the Republican.

Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde delivered an interfaith sermon Tuesday morning to a crowd that included the president and his supporters.

During the prayer, she apparently directed the message at the Trump administration, saying: “In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are afraid now.”

“There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and Independent families. Some who fear for their lives,” she added.

Now Trump has condemned Pastor Budde.

“The so-called bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service Tuesday morning was a radical left-wing die-hard Trump hater,” he wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

“She brought her church into the world of politics in a very ruthless way.

“She was nasty in tone and not persuasive or smart.”

He added that he also found the bishop’s sermon “very boring and uninspiring”.

“She’s not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”
