The Magic, now 23-22, are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Here’s what Magic coach Jamahl Mosley had to say after the game.

What happened when the game got away from them…

JM: “I think we hit a slow patch, they turned up the defense a little bit, took full court, gripping, physical, aggressive, which is, you know, their style of play. We weren’t able to get to the basket as easily , and we didn’t finish some possessions at the rim. I think we did a good job of getting there — I didn’t think we did a good job of finishing once we got there, too from us. I think we started out okay and they just turned it up. Again, that’s part of keeping our guys conditioned, being able to play through eight guys.”

Whether fatigue and having only eight players was a factor in the loss to Toronto…

JM: “I mean, I don’t think it’s an excuse at that point. It’s just – it’s a reality. I think that will become a reality. We came out well, we had a high level of energy, intensity, communication, running through screens, getting over screens. As the game went on, you tried to maneuver with eight guys, had to keep fighting, keep fighting, and then they got extremely physical. Our attacks to the basket sometimes went unrewarded and so I think that took the frustration level away from us.”

Paolo Banchero’s aggression (26 points, 12 rebounds)…

JM: “I loved that Paolo was aggressive. I think his first couple of attacks to the basket, getting hit, getting grabbed, getting held—I think they’re who he is and what he is, and he does a great job of playing through it that’s things we’re going to have to continue to do and continue to see because he’s an aggressive force when he gets in there so I think his ability to come downhill attack the basket and play on the right one way. We’ve got to do a better job of finishing when we get there. But I loved our aggression when it came to the rim.”

On learning from tough losses like this…

JM: “That’s a very good question and I think in this – you want to come away with the win, don’t get it confused. You want to come away with the win, but there has to be a lesson in this loss I think That a big part of it, one is that when we get bodies back, it will be a big change other half of it is ball movement side-to-side, defense in the right way without making mistakes watch movies and watch the tape, you know how we can continue to start the right way, play a good first half, but it came together for 48 minutes.”

On if Jonathan Isaac was too ill to continue…

JM: “Yeah, he and Cole (Anthony) are very sick right now. I think getting them home, getting them back healthy is going to be a big part of this for us.”

How important coming home will be for the Magic…

JM: “It’s huge. It’s huge right now in these moments. The ability of our guys to go home, get some rest, regroup, reset. We’ve got a tough game in Portland coming in and I think we just got to get our minds locked in. This one stings right now, but we’ve got to learn from it, how can we continue to work on putting 48 minutes of basketball together.
