Julia Fox cut her own hair to channel Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura: ‘Immediately regretted it’

Julia Fox braved a bold beauty move for the New Year.

At the January 16 New York premiere of her upcoming film Presence, the model-actress debuted a fresh new look. She made the elf herself, she said Page sixand was inspired by Jim Carrey’s famous alter ego Ace Ventura.

“I went for Ace Ventura, like a sleazy guy, I don’t know, I’m just into it right now,” she told the magazine on the red carpet.

The pet detective’s voluminous quiff goes through several phases throughout the 1994 film – from the outlandish hair horns to a neat, textured bang. In order for Fox to achieve some of Ventura’s iconic look, she had to brave a huge hair transformation.

“It was a long time coming. I’ve wanted to do it for a long time,” she said of her new do. “And you know, sometimes in life you just have to take the plunge and do it. It will grow back, it’s just hair.”

Ahead of the premiere, Fox shared the moment she cut her own hair. Although she captioned the video, “Regretted it immediately,” fans in the comments gave her plenty of support, saying she always looked great.

Prior to this new haircut, Fox had had silver-purple medium length hair.

While her new cut may be shocking to everyone else, Fox is no stranger to bold style choices. In April, she shared her favorite fashion moments with PEOPLE — some of which included lots of skin, a body bag, and a tail.

Fox told PEOPLE that one of her favorite outfits so far in 2024 was her wedding-inspired outfit at a Thom Browne event at Sotheby’s in January, which featured a sheer white blusher with ruffles, a dress with a large cutout in the front that exposed her stomach and bodice thigh, and a black string. She finished off her fun spin on bridal fashion with white lace gloves and a small handbag.

“I thought, great, I’m going to put the veil on and it’s going to cover my chest,” she said. “I happened to have little gloves and the bag, and the bag said, ‘Till death do us part’.”

She added: “Looking at the picture, I wish maybe I would have made sure the strap wasn’t twisted, but that’s okay.”

A month before she sat down with PEOPLE, Fox sported a fanciful sheer catsuit, complete with clear sequins and glitter that erupted from her arms, wrists, back and ankles. She didn’t stop there—her hair reflected the subtle silver of the outfit, as did Fox’s makeup. She wore shiny silver face paint on her cheeks and both sides of her forehead.
