Dangerously low wind chill values early Wednesday

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –

No measurable snow for our area, but you can count on Bitter COLD temps for the start of your Wednesday. Morning lows will start in the low teens, but the wind will make it “feel like” the single digits if you plan to get outside before 7 p.m. 9 Wednesday. So it is very important that you dress warmly in layers before going outside to avoid suffering from hypothermia or frostbite.

We’ll get plenty of sunshine on Wednesday and that will help temperatures rise above freezing to around 40 degrees. Yes, it’s still very cold, but it will certainly be an improvement from Tuesday’s highs, when they never got above freezing. Temperatures will drop well below freezing Thursday morning, but clouds should keep temperatures closer to 20 degrees. Plus, there won’t be much wind to add an extra “bite”.

Highs will climb into the mid 40s Thursday afternoon, upper 40s Friday afternoon and low 50s this weekend…note the general warming trend. Still, morning temperatures will remain below freezing until Sunday morning (upper 30s).

WHAT’S NEXT?

Sunday, expect our next chance for precipitation. Still, it will be in the form of RAIN, not snow thanks to milder weather. Next week an umbrella will come in handy as the pattern looks a bit unsettled…bringing daily rain chances through midweek. Stay tuned to our First Alert Weather Team for updates.
