AFD battles two-alarm fire at vacant quadplex on South Madison

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at a vacant quadplex on South Madison Street late Wednesday night.

Crews arrived at 803 S. Madison St. around 21:43 and saw heavy flames coming from the rear corner of the building. A total of nine devices and 31 people were deployed to the scene.

Firefighters conducted a transition attack and conducted primary searches of all units in the structure. No residents were found during the searches, and no rescues were necessary.

Authorities reported no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Estimated losses include $30,000 in property damage and $5,000 in contents loss.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the incident and continues to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Amarillo Fire Department is reminding residents to remain vigilant about fire safety, especially in vacant properties. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to authorities and ensure that smoke detectors in neighboring buildings are working properly.
