Online trolling led to Amy Schumer being diagnosed with a health condition

The people of the Internet don’t tend to hold back. But in the rare case of a celebrity, online trolls ended up helping the star discover a shock health diagnosis.

On Call her dad podcast, Amy Schumer opened up about the surprising way she found out she had a condition called Cushing’s syndrome.

The star first went public with his diagnosis in February 2024.

Following Mayo Clinicthe condition, which occurs when the body has too much cortisol, can cause high blood pressure or bone loss.

On the Jan. 22 episode, Schumer recalled to host Alex Cooper how “the Internet really came around” for her performance a year ago after she had a press tour.

“I was like, ‘Okay, everybody, relax,'” she recalled thinking.

But that changed when the doctors joined in and agreed that something might be wrong.

Schumer said doctors commented that her “face looks so crazy.”

“I’m like, ‘wait, I’m getting trolled by doctors,'” the star said.

Doctors told Schumer they thought she might have Cushing’s syndrome, which can be caused by steroid injections — something Schumer had received.

The star told Cooper that she had injections into her scars after undergoing a breast reduction and having a C-section. 

Schumer said she “wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come so hard on me.”

Schumer ended up finding out she had Cushing’s syndrome right before she was supposed to film her movie. A little pregnant.

She also had a symptom called “moon face”.

The star explained that there are two types of Cushing’s syndrome – the one that could be fatal and the one she had that should just resolve itself. 

“I was feeling really down on myself before I started filming this movie,” she admitted.

Schumer said, “finding out that I have the kind of Cushing’s that just resolves and I’m healthy was the best news imaginable.”
