Michigan is so cold right now it even looks cold from space.

The The National Weather Service in Marquette sent a NASA satellite image of the state Tuesday showing bands of cold air and lake-effect snow moving across Michigan.

The cold air bands, lake effect snow, and snow on the ground make Michigan look like it’s in the middle of freezing.

The state has experienced extreme cold this week with bitter high temperatures in the teens that started on Monday and continued into Wednesday.

The NWS warned that cold winds in southeast Michigan could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Many metro Detroit schools canceled classes Tuesday and Wednesday due to the cold.

Temperatures in southeast Michigan are expected to climb into the mid-20s on Thursday. The region will also experience some snowfall Wednesday through Thursday. Less than an inch is expected in metro Detroit. Farther north, accumulations of 1-2 inches are possible in Port Huron and 2-3 inches in Bax Axe.
