Everton swoop in and hijack a deal for former Barcelona star with an approach

The January transfer window has entered its final stages and Everton are starting to accelerate business.

The Toffees sit four points above the relegation zone after their 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

But David Moyes knows this is no time for complacency and urged the Friedkin group to make some signings at his post-match press conference.

Moyes wants to implement a more possession-based approach and his training sessions are focused on becoming a more attacking outfit.

To help him with that, Everton clearly need to add some new profiles to the side, and with that said, the club are in talks to sign a former Barcelona midfielder.

According to Italian outfit TuttoJuveEverton have just made contact to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, who they have been tracking for a while.

The Merseysiders are prepared to swoop in and snap up Melo amid heavy interest from La Liga outfit Real Betis.

Many reports have claimed that Betis are ready to land his signature, but as it stands, a deal has not been agreed, leaving the door open for Everton.

The development is expected in the coming hours and Moyes’ side appear well-placed to sign the 22-cap Brazil international.

Arthur Melo has already failed in England

Melo already has experience of playing in the Premier League after spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

However, his spell in England was not particularly productive, making just one appearance. Melo actually played more minutes with the under-21s.

Jurgen Klopp clearly didn’t fancy Melo, but since leaving Anfield, the 28-year-old has enjoyed success with Fiorentina.

He is once again out of the picture at Juve, so a winter exit seems likely.
