Draymond Green trade proposal gets approval from ESPN insider, ‘I love it’

If the Golden State Warriors decide to trade Draymond Green, one team makes sense as a landing spot.

At 21-21, only the most delusional NBA fans would call the Golden State Warriors contenders at this point in the season. They looked good before Thanksgiving, sitting at 12-3 atop the Western Conference, but have since fallen back to Earth fast and hard.

In the midst of their disappointing season, the Warriors have been urged by some to sell the farm, trade away their veterans and rebuild their young talent. While Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are franchise icons that carry some emotional weight, Klay Thompson defected to the Dallas Mavericks so it can be done.

If the Warriors trade Green, it must be to a team that he either has connections to, can use him to compete, or both.

The idea took off for Draymond Green’s team with Cade Cunningham in Detroit

While the Warriors are not living up to expectations, the Detroit Pistons have played better than anyone thought.

At 22-21, they are alive in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt and will only get better as Cade Cunningham and the rest of the young core come into their own.

Green is a hardened veteran who embodies the “Motor City” teams of the past. He is the ultimate NBA “Bad Boy” and his roster fit is clear.

“I love it,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks said when Kevin O’Connor flew Green to the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.

“Isaiah Stewart, a first (round pick), and two or three seconds,” was the deal O’Connor offered.

As always, Green does a little bit of everything for the Warriors. This season, he is averaging 8.4 points, six rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.1 “shares” and is shooting a solid 36.3% from the 3-point line.

“If I was a team, I’d make the call,” Marks added. “Why not? … I’d get on the phone and say we’ll give you two guys and a first, get that money off your books, clear the board, I’d call.”

Detroit the ideal landing spot for Green

The Pistons are clearly a team on the rise. Stewart is buried on the depth chart, playing a career-low 20.9 minutes per game. night, so it makes sense to add a fresh face.

On top of that, Green is one of the more decorated Michigan State Spartans in recent memory, being named an All-American and going to the NCAA Finals with MSU in 2009.

Additionally, he grew up in Saginaw, just 100 miles north of Detroit.

Green has two full seasons left on his contract and could chase a title with his hometown team before he retires. The Warriors, meanwhile, get some assets to rebuild with and ease the pain of trading a franchise legend.
