Omar Marmoush arrives at Man City to take their January spending up to £125m as Pep Guardiola injects new blood into his struggling side in the hope of returning to winning ways

Manchester City have boosted their firepower by announcing the £63million signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush, 25, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal until June 2029.

Pep Guardiola wanted another striker through the door after City sold Julian Alvarez in the summer and Marmoush, who has scored 20 goals in 26 games this season, comes with an exciting reputation.

He becomes City’s third signing of the January window after centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, taking their spending to £125m.

‘This is a day I will never forget. Signing for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is a great feeling. I’m happy, my family is so proud and we’re all very happy to be here in Manchester,” said Marmoush.

‘With Pep, his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, the players have everything they need to improve. It was really tempting for me when I had the chance to come here.

And I can’t deny that I also want to win trophies. City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I’m joining a winning environment and culture. I want to learn from the staff and my teammates and I want to become a valued member of this winning team.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”

Mail Sport exclusively revealed City’s interest in the Egypt international last month. He was the second top scorer in the Bundesliga behind Harry Kane.

His impressive form this campaign builds on a strong 2023-24 season which saw him net 17 times in 41 games.

He takes the number seven shirt, most recently worn by Joao Cancelo, Raheem Sterling and James Milner.

The addition of Marmoush marks another big outlay following the additions of Khusanov (£33.5m) and Vitor Reis (£29.4m).

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: ‘Omar is a skilled and exciting striker and I am delighted that he is joining us.

– He’s had an excellent season and every time we’ve seen him, he’s affected the games.

‘He has all the qualities a top class striker requires. He has excellent pace and awareness and is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a variety of positions, which is a really valuable asset.

“I also have no doubt that working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him further develop his fantastic attacking talent.”

City intend to add another midfielder to their squad.

They have also targeted Real Valladolid defender Juma Bah, 18, with the LaLiga club accusing City of disturbing him after he refused to report to training.

Valladolid claim the player and his representatives informed the club on Tuesday of their intention to break his contract, an extraordinary move that was carried out a day later.

They have initiated disciplinary action against the youngster, who has made 12 appearances for LaLiga fixtures this term and was only made a Valladolid player on a permanent basis at the start of the month.
