Why is Norah O’Donnell leaving the CBS Evening News?

While Norah O’Donnell is leaving the Evening News anchor desk, she is not leaving CBS.

“Following this year’s election, I have decided that I will be leaving my role as anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News to take on a new position at the network,” O’Donnell said in a statement published by CBS. “We’ve just celebrated an amazing five years together. I love what I do and I’m lucky enough to work with the best journalists and people in the business.

“But I’ve spent 12 years in the anchor chair here at CBS News, associated with a daily broadcast and the rigors of a relentless news cycle. It’s time to do something different,” O’Donnell continued. “I will continue to contribute to the Evening News and all of our newscasts, including ’60 Minutes.'”
