No. 11/11 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays at Texas A&M – UK Athletics

Bryan-College Station, Texas-No. 11/11 The University of Kentucky Women’s Basketball Program is on the road again for a contest against Texas A&M at Reed Arena in Bryan-College Station, Texas, on Thursday, January 23 at 7 p.m. 7 p.m. ET.

Darren Headrick has the radio call for the UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His calls will be carried on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 790 AM WKRD (Louisville).

The Wildcats are 16-1 overall, 5-0 in league, 4-1 on the road as they prepare for their second straight game in the Southeastern Conference. The Cats, under the new guidance of head coach Kenny Brooks, are turning heads in the league in 2024-25, earning their third-best start to a season—through 17 games—in program history and their third-best start in League Action – Through five SEC games – in the program history.

In fact, 15 of their 16 wins have come by at least 10 points, while 12 of their 16 wins have come by at least 16 points. Furthermore, all five of their league wins have come by at least 14 points for the first time in program history.

Kentucky travels to Texas A&M on a nine-game hitting streak, tied for the 11th-best in program history. With a triumph Thursday, UK could improve to a 10-game winning streak it hasn’t done since the spring of 2022 and was on track to claim the 2022 SEC Tournament Crown in Nashville, Tennessee.

While all five of UK’s starters are scoring in double figures and passing the ball well enough to rank sixth in the nation in assists per game. Match (19.4), the team is also noted for its defensive efforts. UK has held 13 of its 17 opponents to under 39.0 percent shooting from the field, including all five of its SEC opponents. UK’s 34.4 field goal percentage defense ranks 12th in the nation and second in the conference.

Meanwhile, the Cats still lead the nation in blocks per game. Match with 7.1.

Entering Game 18, All-American Georgia Amoore paces the team and ranks high in the nation in several categories, including 18.5 points per game. Match, 7.4 assists per Game, 2.6 three-point field goals per Battle and 1.1 steals per Match. She was recently named to the John R. Wood Award Top 25 Midseason Watch List, given each year to the most outstanding player in Women’s College Basketball. Clara Strack rounds out the remaining statistical categories, leading her team with 9.8 rebounds per game. Battle and 42 blocks.

In fact, the teammates are coming off a pair of 20-plus-point performances in a win at Georgia on Sunday. It marked the first time in more than two decades that two UK players scored at least 24 points each in a conference game since Sese Helm and Sara Potts did it at Ole Miss on Feb. 1, 2004.

The upcoming game marks the 15th all-time meeting between Kentucky and Texas A&M. UK trails Tamu all-time, 9-5, in a series that began in 2013. Kentucky also trails Texas A&M in Bryan-College Station, Texas, 4-3.

The Wildcats have lost eight of the last nine games against the Aggies, including the last four straight. The Cats last defeated AGGS in a 76-54 result on January 16, 2020 at home. The Cats last defeated AGGS in Bryan-College Station in a 71-58 result on February 28, 2016.
