Person shot at downtown Kalamazoo bus station

KALAMAZOO, MI – Police are investigating after a person was found shot at the downtown bus station, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief David Boysen said.

Several police vehicles responded just before 1 p.m. 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, and officers fanned out in the area around the bus/train station with dogs and rifles and searched the area.

The suspect is not supposed to be at the scene, the police said. There is at least one reported injury, KDPS said.

A man named Peter was waiting for a bus at the station and refused to give his last name. He and others said they heard a single gunshot. Peter said he heard the shot and felt the concussion of it after he saw a person walk into the bus station.

The man then sat down and said “I got shot,” Peter told MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette.
