Teen arrested with gun at McGavock High School

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A student is facing charges after a search of his backpack turned up a gun at McGavock High School Wednesday night.

According to the arrest affidavit, the Metro Nashville Police Department was alerted to a student with a gun at 3150 McGavock Pike around 10 p.m. 17 Wednesday. Officers arrived at the school and spoke with the dean, who said she found a gun in a backpack belonging to 18-year-old Victor Littleton, the affidavit said.

The dean said an iPhone was stolen and she believed Littleton had it in her backpack, prompting her to search. She said Littleton was with another boy who told her there was a gun in the backpack and it was his. He ran away when the gun was discovered and remains at large, according to the affidavit.

Littleton told the dean he was at the school to play basketball with his friend and didn’t know there was a gun in his backpack, the affidavit said. He repeated this explanation to the officers several times when he was arrested.

Littleton was booked Wednesday night and charged with carrying a weapon on school property.

Alarming online messages suggested that McGavock High School could be connected to the deadly shooting at Antioch High School on Wednesday. The Metro Nashville Police Department investigated the threats and found them to be “unfounded,” according to Metro Nashville Public Schools.

“The information circulating online is not believed to be credible and we are not aware of any connection between the two incidents,” explained Sean Braisted with MNPS.

Littleton is scheduled to appear in court on February 14.
