School closures announced due to extreme winter weather

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Several school districts monitoring the First Alert weather forecast have decided to close school due to winter conditions.

The arctic blast is still expected, starting this Sunday.

School officials announced the following closings and school changes for Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd.

Himmelfarts parish

Himmelfarts Parish Schools will be closed on Tuesday 21 January, Wednesday 22 January and Thursday 23 January. No new assignments are given out during this time. Students are encouraged to focus on completing previously assigned assignments as schools are scheduled to reopen on Friday, January 24.

Assumption Parish

Assump Parish schools will be closed on Wednesday 22 January and will remain closed until Monday 27 January.

East Baton Rouge Parish

LSU announced that the campus will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and will remain closed on Thursday, January 23rd. The campus will reopen on Friday 24 January.
Southern University campuses on the Baton Rouge land mass will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st, Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd. Classes and offices will switch to remote operation.
All BRCC training sites will remain closed on Wednesday 22 January and Thursday 23 January and the College will transition to distance learning and remote working.
All EBR schools will be closed on Thursday 23 January and Friday 24 January.
The City of Baker school system will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd.
All Zachary schools will be closed on Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th.
The Central Community School System will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and will remain closed through Thursday, January 23rd.
Catholic High School’s campus will be closed on Tuesday, January 21 CHS will hold an electronic school day on Tuesday, January 21
Parkview Baptist School will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd.
Martin Luther King Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and will remain closed on Thursday, January 23rd due to inclement weather.
Jehovah-Jireh Christian Academy and Learning Center in Baton Rouge will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd.
The Helix Community School network will be closed on Wednesday 22nd January and Thursday 23rd January.
Madison Preparatory Academy will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st.
Educare Academy 1 & 2 will be closed on Tuesday 21 January
IDEA Public Schools is closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and will remain closed on Thursday, January 23rd due to winter weather.
The Dunham School campus will remain closed through Thursday, January 23rd. Students should complete e-assignments.
Louisiana School for the Deaf and Louisiana School for the Blind will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st, Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd.
Central Private School is closed on Tuesday 21 January and Wednesday 22 January.
Southern University Laboratory School will be closed on Tuesday, January 21.
St. Joseph’s Academy will be closed on Wednesday, January 22 and will remain closed on Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24. These will be virtual school days for the students.
Inspire Charter Academy will be closed on Wednesday 22 January and Thursday 23 January.
Hosanna Christian Academy announced that it will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd.
Zachary Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and will remain closed through Thursday, January 23rd.
Kenilworth Science and Technology Academy will be closed on Wednesday 22nd January and will remain closed on Thursday 23rd January.
Franciscan Missionaries from Our Lady University will be remote through Thursday, January 23rd.
South Baton Rouge Charter will be closed Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd.
Brighton School will be closed on Tuesday 21st January and Wednesday 22nd January.
The Fortis College Baton Rouge campus will be closed on Tuesday, January 21.
Trinity Episcopal Day School will be closed through Thursday, January 23rd.
Dalton Elementary will be closed on Thursday, January 23rd.
Lanier Elementary will be closed on Thursday, January 23rd.
McKanstry Preparatory School in Central will be closed Thursday, January 23 due to the continued impacts of winter weather.
GEO Prep Academy, GEO Mid-City, GEO Prep Baker, GEO Next Generation High School will be closed on Thursday, January 23rd.

West Baton Rouge Parish

All WBR schools will be closed on Wednesday 22 January and Thursday 23 January. Students should continue their distance learning work on Thursday.
Holy Family School will continue distance learning through Thursday, January 23.

East Feliciana Parish

All East Feliciana public schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd, Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th. Schools will reopen on Monday 27 January.

West Feliciana Parish

All West Feliciana Parish Schools will remain closed Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th.

Iberville Parish

All Iberville Parish Schools will remain closed on Friday, January 24 due to unsafe road conditions, strain on the parish water supply and to continue thorough assessments of all schools and buildings for any heating issues and/or frost related damage.

Pointe Coupee Parish

All Pointe Coupee Parish Schools will be closed Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th due to freezing weather.

Saint Helena Parish

All St. Helena Parish School District schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st.

Tangipahoa Parish

All Tangipahoa Parish School System schools will remain closed on Thursday, January 23rd. Schools will reopen on Friday until there are no major problems with the facilities.
All Northshore Technical Community College campuses will be closed on Thursday, January 23rd.

Livingston Parish

Livingston Parish Public Schools and Central Office will be closed Tuesday, January 21st, Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd.
Livingston Parish Public Schools is also canceling all after-school activities until Tuesday. and Wed.
