Fan may have revealed the release date for Stranger Things 5, and it’s much later than hoped

Stranger Things is one of the most popular and influential original series Netflix has yet produced. Starting in 2016, the sci-fi drama followed the adventures of a group of young townspeople as they battle interdimensional monsters invading the sleepy town of Hawkins, IN. We’ve seen many of the cast members grow up before our eyes over the past four seasons, and it’s going to be an emotional experience to see them go into one final battle when the fifth and final season of Stranger Things airing on Netflix sometime this year.

But when exactly? Netflix hasn’t revealed an official release date, but a fan may have cracked it. An X account called @UpsideDownScoop went digging around in the code for the Stranger Things page on the Netflix website. They show their work here. According to what they have obtained, new episodes of Stranger Things will fall on November 27, 2025.

It should go without saying that this news should be taken with a grain of salt…probably a big one. Looking at the code, it appears that there is a date of November 27, 2025 under the “Premiere Date” heading in the site code. But I don’t think we need to take it as gospel. It can be a placeholder, it can be changed, or it can just be something on the back of a website that doesn’t apply to the big decisions of the studio. Until Netflix tells us a release date, I think things are still up in the air, at least officially.

@UpsideDownScoop also says that, at least according to this code, all eight episodes of Stranger Things 5 is scheduled to drop immediately, which I find hard to believe. Stranger Things season 4 had nine episodes, seven of which Netflix dropped in May and the last two of which dropped in July. Again, Stranger Things is one of the studio’s biggest shows, so I imagine they want to stretch things out a bit.

That being said, it isn’t impossible that Netflix could premiere new episodes on November 27, which also happens to be Thanksgiving day this year. True, that would mean fans will have waited over three years to see new episodes, which is a very long time. But if there’s one show on Netflix’s list that people would be willing to wait this long for, it would be Stranger Things. I could see them releasing a batch of episodes around Thanksgiving and another around Christmas, giving people something to watch over the Christmas holidays.

We’ve also heard that Netflix is ​​releasing the third and final season of Play octopusanother of its most popular shows, in June. I had originally hoped that the final season of Stranger Things may drop in July or so, but perhaps Netflix thinks that would be firing two of its biggest weapons too close together. Hopefully the studio will release some official information soon.
