The Traitors, Jade Thirlwall, The Brutalist, Naomi Watts and FKA twigs: New entertainment releases this week

The Brutalist has already won three awards at the Golden Globes and won nine Bafta film nominations.

The film, which is also expected to be a major contender at the Oscars, opens in UK cinemas on Friday.

Starring Adrien Brody, Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones, it tells the story of a Hungarian architect who is hired by a wealthy American after World War II.

It’s also really long: 215 minutes including a 15-minute intermission in the middle.

I grew up watching Bollywood movies, so a long movie doesn’t scare me.

But my colleague Lizo Mzimba asked director Brady Corbet for his take on the duration.

“I think it’s something you can’t worry about. You have to do what’s right for the project,” he said.

“The length of a film corresponds to the length of a book, a double album, a painting on a large canvas. I love small portraits and I love (the German painter) Anselm Kiefer. For me there is room for both of them .

“And at the end of the day, especially if the movie has an intermission, it’s only 100 minutes on each side, so it’s not that bad.”

Lizo’s has also interviewed the stars of the show – look out for it later this week.
