BBC Question Time audience member wanted Labor minister with questions | Politics | News

A BBC Question Time audience member saved Labor in an exciting question on tonight’s show.

The moment that left Labor frontbencher Lucy Powell squirming came as the panel debated whether God saved Donald Trump to “save the world”.

The woman said: “If God decided to save Donald Trump so he could make America and the American people great again, does the Labor government and Keir Starmer ever think they will put Britain and the British people first?”

Ms Powell replied: “On the question I don’t really want to get into God’s motives, that’s certainly above my grade.

“On the broader issue of the relationship with Donald Trump and opinions about Donald Trump… Donald Trump was elected with a very clear mandate, with a very clear agenda, and he won the election pretty clearly.

“He has every right to run the country and make the decisions based on winning the election that he sees fit and what he thinks is the right approach for his country.

“As we were elected six months ago with a clear mandate for change and we have every right to run our country the way we do.”

It comes after Trump declared he was “saved by God to make America great again” at his inauguration on Monday.

The US president referred to an assassination attempt at a demonstration in Pennsylvania in July.

Meanwhile, Labor has seen support plummet since its landslide election victory six months ago.
