Nashville school shooting: what we know so far | Tennessee

A 17-year-old gunman opened fire in a Nashville-area high school cafeteria Wednesday, killing one student and wounding two others.

With an investigation underway, here’s what we know so far:


  1. 1. Authorities identified the victim as Josselin Corea Escalante, 16

    Escalante, a student at Antioch High School, was killed in the school cafeteria. speaks to To WTVF, Escalante’s father, German Corea, said, “Every day I told her how much I loved her.”

    Adding that his daughter had good grades in school and enjoyed playing soccer, Corea said, “It’s not fair.”

    Meanwhile, Escalante’s aunt, Maria Corea, told WTVF, “She was my girl … She was a very quiet girl and well-behaved. She had good grades in school. She was a girl who loved her parents and her whole family. “


  2. 2. Two other students were injured during the shooting

    According to local police, a 17-year-old student is currently being treated for a wound. Another student suffered a facial injury but was not shot, police said, WSMV reports.

    One of the students was transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. The other student was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, WSMV reports, adding that both students are in stable condition.


  3. 3. Authorities identify the gunman as a student at Antioch High School

    Authorities have identified the 17-year-old gunman as Solomon Henderson. According to the police quoted in local media, Henderson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

    Video posted on Australian live streaming platform Kick and reviewed by CNN, the suspect filmed himself inside the school shortly before the shooting. At one point, the suspect tries to open a door before walking away from it, CNN reports.

    Additional posts on social media allegedly attributed until the suspect has been quoted in local media. A post dated January 19 said: “The shooting will take place next Thursday. This is a complete failure and not the original plan I had… Fear of fading before I do anything.”

    Another post dated January 21 said: “Tomorrow is the day. I planned for Thursday but I have to hurry things up. I don’t have much time… My goal is to kill at least 10 people…”


  4. 4. Live streaming platform says ‘violence has no place’

    After the shooting, live streaming platform Kick condemned the incident. In one declaration on X, Kick said, “On January 22nd, an attack took place in Nashville, Tennessee, and was partially live streamed. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this event.”

    Kick announced that it “immediately banned the account and removed the video,” adding, “Violence has no place on Kick. We are actively working with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to support their investigation.”


  5. 5. Investigation of gunman’s online activity is ongoing

    In one declaration on Wednesday, Nashville police said they were working with federal and state agencies to “investigate highly troubling online writings and social media posts” associated with Solomon.

    Authorities also said they were working to “establish the motive behind Henderson’s shooting,” adding, “The investigation has not established a connection between Henderson and the two shooting victims at this time. It may be that they were hit by his random shots in the cafeteria.” “
