What is open and closed when South Louisiana starts to thaw

New Orleans (WVUE) – from Thursday morning, two days after a historic snowfall blanket, the Gulf Coast, Road and Bridge -related treacherous.

Here are the latest updates from DOTD and local officials.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid travel early this morning due to icy conditions and wait until afternoon if possible. As temperatures rise over freezing and the sun comes out, roads become more acceptable. However, icy spots and refreshing tonight will continue to create dangers.

Road conditions

  • Icy roads: A thick layer of ice covers most roads this morning. The most dangerous time to travel will be early this morning due to the ice. DOTD warns of potential accidents that can delay clearing efforts.
  • Salt and Clearing herds: Crews equipped with salt and clearing tools are preset throughout the metro area and will start inserting when conditions are improved with sunlight.

Large highways

  • Interstate 10: Crews from western and northern parts of the state have arrived to help clear greater priority routes. Sections of I-10 are expected to reopen gradually, starting from west to east, with a full reopening provisionally planned for Friday morning.
  • Interstate 55: Ankle-deep snow and ice remain on swollen portions
  • Interstate 12: Raterable from Slidell to Livingston Parish
  • Highway 90: Parts open again, including parts of Jefferson Hwy and Claiborne Ave

Bro updates

  • Crescent City Connection (CCC): CCC is opened again with a lane in each direction.
  • Huey P. Long Bridge (HPL): Currently open with a lane in each direction. Crews continue to work to improve conditions.
  • Bonnet Carre Spillway: Closed
  • Twin Span Bridge: Closed
  • Causeway Bridge: A lane open to the first respondents. A track that opens passenger traffic on Friday at. 9, full re -opening expected this weekend.
  • Highway 11 Bridge: Open

Northshore against Southshore

  • Northshore: Roads on Northshore are in better shape than those on Southshore. Most state highways on Northshore are expected to be cleared by the end of the day. Slow travel is still important.
  • Southshore: Conditions remain challenging, with ice sustained on larger and secondary roads. The clearing effort is underway with priority on the reopening of main arteries.

    • OPEN: US 90 between Willowdale Boulevard and Live Oak Boulevard
    • US 90 B Harvey Tunnel Eastbound ONLY In Jefferson is parish OPEN.
    • Partly open: US 90 (Huey P. Long Bridge) between Jefferson Highway and Seven Oaks Boulevard (One Lane Open in each direction)
    • LA 3139 (Earhart Expressway) between Dickory Avenue and Hamilton Street
    • Lapalco Bridge over Harvey Canal
    • Lapalco bridge over bayou sized
    • Cleary transition by I-10
    • Elevated highway
  • Lafourche Parish
    • US HIGHWAY 90
    • Elevated LA 1 (Leeville to Port Fourchon)
    • St. Patrick Bridge (LA 20) in Thibodaux
    • Côte Blanche Pontoon Bridge in Cut off
    • Galliano Pontoon Bridge
  • Orleans parish (Short?
    • Partly open: US 90B on Crescent City Connection (a lane open in each direction)
    • US 90B (Westbank Expressway) between Westwood Drive and LA 428

    • LA 39 (Claiborne Bridge) between Poland Avenue and Tennessee Street

    • OPEN: LA 315 Bayou Dularge Bridge between Concord Bypass Road and Houma Navigation Bridge

Winter blowing

DOTD calls for patience when the state continues to recover from this rare blizzard. Officials say this type of snow event is unprecedented and may not happen again in our lifetime. Thursday is expected to be an important day for thawing, but refreshing will occur tonight and icy conditions can continue until Friday morning.
