Women’s Basketball offers No. 1/1 UCLA Thursday night

Piscataway, NJ – Rutgers Women’s Basketball team (8-11, 0-8 B1G) hosts No. 1/1 UCLA (18-0, 6-0 B1G) Thursday, January 23 at. 19. Sport 1 as well as available to listen to Fox Sports NJ.

The competition is brought to you by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the entire 2024-25 Rutgers Women’s Basketball season is presented by Prudenial.

Last Time Out

Despite a career day from Jojo Lacey, Scarlet Knights fell to RV/RV Michigan (13-3, 4-3 B1G), 87-71, on the road on Saturday afternoon.


Lacey led scoring with a career best 27 points and six triangles. Destiny Adams Secured her fourth consecutive double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Lisa Thompson also ended the day with 13 points.

After the first week of the season, Adams earned the first Big Ten player of the week (November 11) honor for his career in addition to being chosen as one of USBWA Ann Meyers Spraysdale National Players of the Week and an AP player of Week Honorable publicity.

The start of the season was highlighted by her historical performance over Njit (November 10) when she recorded a career best 36 points and 22-Bound double-dual. In addition to her 2024 Big Ten Tournament Performance (33 points, 24 rebounds), she is the first player in the program story with 30+ points and 20+ rebounds in a regular seasonal match for over 12 seasons.

Adams ’36 points tie a Jersey Mike’s Arena Record, previously set by Arella Guirantes in 2020. She is also tied to 8th place for most points in a single game in the program history with Guirantes and Caroline Deroose (1994).

She also had 30 points and 15 boards of the game earlier versus Cornell, to make her the first Scarlet Knight since Sue Wicks (1988) for Netto Back-to-Back 30+ Point games.

Adam’s average currently 17.7 points and 10.2 rebounds. She has reached double in 16 competitions this season and secured 10 double doubles so far. She became the 38th player in the program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone with her performance against Minnesota.

Successful alumni

Rutgers Women’s Basketball celebrated three of its most significant alums during the high season when Kahleah Copper earned a gold medal in the 2024 Olympic Games with Team US Named to be introduced to Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class.

Copper helped Team USA to her eighth straight gold medal and her first, with a 67-66 win over France on August 11. Copper came out of the bench in the gold medal game with 12 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory.

Laney-Hamilton also made history with Liberty and brought the first WNBA championship to New York. She played a huge role in Game Two of the series, netting 20 points in addition to two rebounds and two assists to give Liberty her first win in the series. In addition, she scored at least two points in the other four games.

The 5-9 Guard, who played for Rutgers from 2001-06, Pondexter was the fourth scarlet knight in women’s basketball story, who was named a first team of Kodak/WBCA All-American as well as the unanimous election as the big eastern player in 2006 Years and the first player in the league story named for All-Big East First Team four times during his career. Welcome to the new

Head coach Coquese Washington Added two transfers, a few beginner and a walk-on in high season.

Graduate student Jojo Lacey joined the team from Boston College and Sophomore Janae Walker From Kentucky.

As a senior, Lacey was an average of 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per day. Match. She reached 10+ points in nine excursions including two matches with 20+ and a career high 23-point performance against North Carolina (February 29).

During his rookie season with Wildcats, Walker played in 28 games and started one. She netted a season high six points and three field goals on No. 18/18 Louisville (December 10), while also grabbing four rebounds three times. Walker led the UK in blocks four times during the season.

Rookies Kiyomi McMiller and Zachara Perkins come “on the banks” during the summer and walk-on junior Deja Young This fall.

A five-star recruiter, McMiller was ranked No. 22 in his recruitment class by ESPNW. She played the last two seasons of her high school career at the Life Center Academy in Burlington, New Jersey, an average of 30.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.8 steal per year. Battle during her senior campaign.

McMiller leaves high school with an impressive resume over a three-year period and scored 2,015 points, 437 rebounds, 363 assists and 231 steals in 70 games.

In Perkins’ 2022-23 season at Summercreek High School in Houston, Texas, she led her team to both an area and a bi-district championship beyond the Region 3 final. She was a consistent player with double-double type, she average 18.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per day. Fight through his junior season.

Perkins was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-State and All-Region Teams. In addition, she was chosen as the newcomer of the year and to the all-academic team.

Personnel Additions

In addition to the five newcomers on the field, coach Washington also made some additions on the sidelines. Hayes spent the last four seasons as head coach at UMBC. In the 2022-23 season, Hayes led the retrievers to an 11-win improvement, one of the best in the nation. Hayes also led the team to a 10-6 brand in America East Play, their second best record in program history.

Mcintire comes to Piscataway after serving as student manager and graduate assistant in Iowa for the past four years. Ramirez also served as student manager at Scarlet Knights in recent seasons before being promoted to his current role.

Rutgers appears six appearances on the big screen during the Big Ten Network and Fox Sports 1 campaign.

Scout Bruins

UCLA is one of two undefeated teams in the country, most recently defeating Penn State (83-67) and Baylor (72-57).

Lauren Betts (20.0), Kiki Rice (12.9) and Gabriela Jaquez (10.4) Tempo in all Bruins on average double -digit points. Betts also leads the team with 9.9 rebounds per year. Match.
