Raiders hire Pete Carroll: Will quarterback Russell Wilson join him?

The biggest player question in the 2025 Las Vegas Raiders offseason is who will be the quarterback.

On Friday, we may have found a new leader. The Raiders, of course, hired Pete Carroll as their new coach.

That immediately sparked speculation that Carroll could reunite with Russell Wilson, with whom he won a Super Bowl and drafted and coached for 10 seasons, in Las Vegas this season. Wilson is a free agent.

A source close to both Carroll and Wilson told the Silver and Black Pride that they expect Wilson to join the Raiders this season because it makes too much sense. The source explained that Wilson would likely love it and Carroll would likely be on board.

The two had a messy breakup in 2022 when Wilson was traded to Denver. But the two have since reconciled and Wilson, 36, has spoken kindly of Carroll publicly.

It could make sense if both coach and player are on the pitch. Familiarity helps. Wilson won’t be overly expensive, and that would be the short-term answer for a team with no clear path to finding their long-term answer at the position this season.

At worst, Wilson could compete with incumbent Aidan O’Connell, and the Raiders could draft a quarterback in the middle rounds.

Of course, the risk is that Wilson and O’Connell aren’t great, but the Raiders win enough in 2025 to keep them from finding their long-term solution at quarterback for another year.
