Houston Texans has fired second -year offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, confirms league. Athletics. The move comes six days after the team’s AFC Divisional Round loss – the second in just as many seasons – to Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday.

Slowik, 37, was hired by Houston in February 2023 and had the role for two years, both with No. 2 overall CJ Stroud as quarterback. The Texans carried out an impressive turn from worst to first in 2023, guided by a pass-heavy offensive number 12 in average yards (342.4) and 13. Fight (22.2). Slowik’s unit took a step back in Stroud’s second-year campaign and ended up in 22 and 19th place in the respective categories in 2024.

The former College Wide Receiver originally broke into the NFL as a defensive assistant for Washington from 2011-13, before ascending the coach craving over six seasons with San Francisco 49ers, most recently as care coordinator in 2022.

After interviewing five vacant head coach positions last year, including Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans, Slowik has interviewed only one head coach job in this cycle: New York Jets on January 16.

Defense caught up with Slowik, Texas in 2024

While Stroud supported Slowik returning to a third season at the end of the season’s media, Ryan’s non -committal seemed. And now the Texans’ decline in the offensive this season turned out too much to give Slowik another shot.

The former 49er’s coordinator for care games was a warm name and rapidly rises among the coaches after 2023, when Stroud won offensive Rookie of the Year, and Texans won AFC South as the league’s surprise team. The Texans won 10 matches, AFC South and a wildcard-playoff match again this year. But the eye test and the numbers tell you why Houston took this step.

The Texans went from 12 to 22. Fight and fewest giveaways in the league to 11th most from 2023 to 2024.

A lot of other factors can be blamed. Texans’ offensive line was mostly bad this season, unable to consistently protect stroud. Injuries also played a role as the most important offensive weapons St. Diggs, Tank Dell, Joe Mixon and Nico Collins all lacked matches.

But Texan fans got tired of Slowik’s inability to be creative, adapt and adapt as defensive coordinators obtained Slowik’s attack. While Houston’s defense played as a championship unit, the attack was consistently raised by the AFC Silk weights in Kansas City and Baltimore, and the Texans even produced a few downs, namely Titans and Jets.
