High winds cancel prescribed burn in northern Arizona

The Forest Service of Northern Arizona suspended one prescribed burning southwest of the city due to strong winds in the area.

Morning gusts topped 45 miles per hour over Flagstaff.

Officials started a 1,700-acre burn Wednesday. They said it is expected to resume Friday if the winds die down.

According to the National Weather Service, a weather system that could potentially bring rain to the valley and snow to the high country is expected to hit Arizona on Sunday.
