SEC Moves No. 5 LSU no. 2 South Carolina to Fri. Due to the weather

Southeastern Conference has postponed Thursday night’s basketball match for women between No. 5 LSU and No. 2 South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina, to Friday due to winter weather.

Sec said Friday’s match would tip at 5pm one. LSU Athletics officials were convinced that the women’s basketball team would be able to fly out of Baton Rouge on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Sun Belt Conference cited “Dangerous Travel Relationships” by the conversion of four men’s basketball matches.

Georgia Southern’s home game against Coastal Carolina and Louisiana-Lafayette’s home match against Texas State was moved from Wednesday to Thursday. Two matches that were originally scheduled for Thursday – Southern Miss in Troy and South Alabama in Louisiana -Monroe – were both moved to Monday.

The decision comes a day after a winter storm fell about a meter of snow in parts of southern Louisiana and made traveling dangerous in subtropical communities that do not have much in the way of snow removal equipment for roads and airports.

LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette said highways in and around Baton Rouge remained closed on Wednesday and that teaching at LSU has been canceled through Thursday.

Tigers’ home match on Sunday night against Texas A&M follows the plan.

After breaking snow records in Texas and Louisiana on Tuesday, the storm continued to spread heavy snow, sleet and frost rain over parts of Florida Panhandle, Georgia and coastal Carolinas on Wednesday.

South Carolina (18-1, 6-0 SEC) comes after a 101-60 win over Oklahoma on Sunday.

LSU (20-0, 5-0 SEC) is in the process of one of the best starts in the history of the program and comes after an 80-63 victory in Florida on Sunday. 2022-23 National Championship team currently owns the best start in the program’s history with 23-0. The team’s first loss came in South Carolina.
