Tina Turner / Private Dancer deluxe edition – SuperDeluxeEdition

A decade after the last reissue, Tina Turner’s 1984 album Private dancer reissued again as predicted in the 2025 SDE reissue.

Four physical formats are offered with a 5 CD+blu-ray deluxe edition most likely to be of interest to SDE readers. That edition uses the same 2015 remaster as last time, but fixes most of the problems SDE had with the previous version by including all the single edits, all the 12-inch versions and offering a disc of previously unreleased and rare versions, including a previously unheard track called ‘Hot For You Baby’.

The 6-disc deluxe also includes the audio from Private Dancer Tour show filmed at the NEC (including performances by David Bowie and Bryan Adams) along with restored HD video on blu-ray (now confirmed). Another (mostly) unreleased live show from Chicago recorded in August 1984 appears on CD 4.

The Blu-ray includes eight promo videos, many restored from original film prints, although disappointingly it doesn’t include any TV appearances, notably Tina on UK TV’s The Tube performing Let’s Stay Together with Heaven 17’s Martyn Ware and Glen Gregory . It’s not clear if a Dolby Atmos Mix has been created, but if so, they didn’t bother to include it on the blu-ray.

The unreleased track ‘Hot For You Baby’ is forgettable, which is not entirely surprising. It was clearly not deemed good enough to be a B-side at the time and was apparently not considered for inclusion on either of the two previous extended CD editions of Private dancer.

Other formats for 2025 are a 2 CD setwhere the second disc offers a similar – but not identical – disc to CD 2 in the box. It includes the same B-sides, single edits and 12-inch versions from CD 2 in the deluxe, but adds the ‘new’ song ‘Hot For You Baby’ and also includes two live B-sides from ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’ ‘ single (‘Let’s Pretend We’re Married’ and ‘Nutbush City Limits’). At first glance, these appear to be missing from the big box set, but they are from the Chicago concert on CD 4 (which means it’s not completely unreleased, as said).
