Don Julio Tequila, Popeyes Teases Collaboration, Social Media Reacts

Don Julio Tequila and Popeyes team up for a collaboration?

That seems to be the case after the two brands announced that something was on the horizon with both of their items. A short hype video was released to the masses on Thursday (January 23), showing a woman DJing as Latin-inspired music soundtracks the affair. Bottles of tequila appear throughout the teaser, with the clip ending with a glimpse of a black-colored case featuring both the brand’s name front and center.

“The kitchen is warming up for the big game. Batch starts 1.31.25,” reads the captions, announcing that whatever this is will be released or revealed at the end of January.

Now this is just speculation, but It should be noted that the mention of “Big Game” could imply that this collaboration is tied to the NFL’s Super Bowl in some capacity, which is scheduled to go down on Sunday (February 9). Interestingly, Popeyes Chicken was founded in 1972 in New Orleans, which is where Super Bowl Lix will be played this year. So don’t be surprised if you see a high-budget commercial for Sports’ biggest game.

As for the Don Julio Tequila tie … well, the internet seems to think its involvement with the fried chicken chain is a sign that this collaboration is strictly aimed at “blacks and Mexicans” or some variation thereof mood. Social media reactions poured in after the video hit the internet, with most netizens singing the exact same tune.

“Popeyes and Don Julio are teaming up for Black History Month … Exactly what I expected under the Trump administration,” one person Sent. “Don Julio and Popeyes, the chime in. “Tequila and popeyes…just in time for Black History Month gimme a 3-piece and a mixed lemonade,” someone The type On X/Twitter. “Don Julio and Popeye’s Collapse comes out January 31st, the eve of Black History Month ??????????? This is our gift? Just say the N word with a hard r, “another netizen comical or not so comical, asked. “This gon is worse than chicken sandwiches, please rest assured,” an account posted under Popeyes and Don Julio Tequila’s comment section, referring to the great chicken wars of 2019.

Whether this breakdown will have a liquor-soaked fried chicken sandwich, a lunchable meal with a side of Julio as a ’90s sports drink, a poultry-flavored tequila, or a beautifully packaged racial slur, the internet will just have to wait until the 31st. January to find out.
