Spirit Airlines Dresscode Politics – NBC 6 South Florida

Travelers flying with Spirit Airlines should prepare for a new policy that requires passengers to comply with specific dressing and other standards before boarding. The Miramar-based airline’s requirements for flying will now include checks, not only for the sizes of tickets and hand luggage, but also passengers’ attire.

Passengers are advised to store their bikinis and bare feet to the beach. According to the new rules, Spirit Airlines reserves the right to refuse service to guests who do not meet their clothing standards. This includes those who are barefoot or dressed in a way that is considered inappropriate, such as wearing transparent clothing or any outfit that reveals private parts.

“It’s their rules,” said Spirit passenger Jahyra Lewis. “We need a little more modesty around here.”

“But look at me, I’m coming in with pajamas,” she added humorously. “At least I’m fully dressed.”

Brittany Earll, another passenger, also agreed with the policy.

“I think it’s necessary. It’s just a kind of disgusting to walk around in a plane without shoes on, “Earll explained.

Among the rules written in the company’s ‘carriage contract’, a guest should not be allowed to board the aircraft or may be required to leave an aircraft if this guest:

… is barefoot or inadequately dressed (ie transparent clothing; not sufficiently covered; bare breasts, buttocks or other private parts), or whose clothes or objects including body art are obscene, obscene or offensive by nature; or has a offensive smell unless caused by a qualified disability.

Some passengers emphasized the positive impact of the guidelines of families traveling with children.

“Not that my kids haven’t seen it or heard it or maybe even said things at times,” said Spirit passenger Tyler Earll. “But it doesn’t have to be thrown anywhere.”

NBC6 contacted Spirit Airlines to clarify what is considered “inconculent” or “offensive” but we haven’t heard back.
