Paul George falls 30 as Red Got shooting leads Sixers to exciting victory over east-best cavs

Look at this team competing with the best team in the East – without Joel Embiid, no less!

Sixers beat Cleveland Cavaliers 132-129 in a stable burner Friday night.

Paul George had another massive second half, ending with 30 points to lead Sixers, shooting 11-of-21 from the field and 6-of-11 from three. Tyrese Maxey went on 29 points along with seven assists and shoots 9-of-18 from the floor. Kelly Oubre Jr. Had 22 points and 13 rebounds before getting up late in the fourth quarter.

Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 37 points and Ty Jerome had a career high 33.

Here are some thoughts at the Summer.

First quarter

  • Shots fell early when Sixers made three of their first four shots at night, but they also had three revenue (two from PG) within the first three minutes of the game. Nor did they start on the boards well as eight of the first 12 points for Cavs was the second chance point.
  • Maxey was a big part of these shots that fell. He got his first pair of pull-up triangles to fall. He was also pretty disturbing at the other end with three steals in the first, able to choose the pocket of both Mitchell and Darius Garland. Oubre was also starting a decent start with a couple of trips to the free throwing line. However, he avoided it by taking on Sam Merrill on a three and being called on an obvious process.
  • It ended up being quite a turn, not only Merrill’s cash in the line, but ended it with a three, and then one more next time down on the floor. However, Sixers was able to match as they shot a blistering 8-of-11 from deep in the quarter. Maxey continued to pour it on, while Justin Edwards and Eric Gordon both joined the board when Sixers took a six-point lead after one.

Second quarter

  • The protocol without Maxey turned out to be an early match. Sixers opened the other 1-of-6 from the floor along with three revenue. They tried to play through Guerschon Yabusele in the position, but were not quick enough to swing the ball around as he pulled double in the position.
  • George certainly did not lift that unit up at the beginning when he got his pocket picked and threw another wild care in the stands. He jumped back with a cut dunk and another layup that was the goal. He was the only sixer scoring in a four and a half minutes stretch when the offense hit a break.
  • Sixers quickly returned to shooting out the lights mostly led by Maxey. After getting a three to roll in, he put on a pretty spin movement to get himself an open float. However, Cleveland was able to match. Both teams shot 52% off the field in the first half, and both teams made 12 triangles in the first half. Cavs went into the break with a three-point lead.

Third quarter

  • Cavs just took up that pace, making four of their first five shots to start the second half. Sixers had early answers when George hit a few triangles at the other end. Yabu did not get the assistant for it, but his kick out led to one of them – he also had a driving can during this stretch.
  • It felt like Cleveland was doing a lot of hard shot, but they were able to get a lighter look in the third. A few breakdowns led to large open lanes for them. Sixers continued to respond, briefly reintroducing a one-point lead on Oubre’s third and 1 at night.
  • The answers continued to come from George, who shot 5-of-7 in the quarter and 4-of-5 from three. Cleveland also slowed down towards the end of it, so much so that they missed a transitional lineup and Mitchell missed a free kick. They were still able to beat the buzzer with a three to make it a two-point Sixers’ lead after the third.

Fourth quarter

  • It continued to be easy for Cavs to get to the edge against the Sixers team, which apparently had finished playing some traditional big ones for the night. Mitchell’s first three layup trials in the quarter were all successful. The other unit, however, drew their weight as Edwards and Jeff Dowtin Jr. Each had some large curve early in the quarter.
  • Sixers’ playful Ty Jerome continued to count in triangles as Cavs extended a lead to six, one of the biggest leads of the night. After walking scoreless for three minutes, Sixers jumped a 10-0 run to go back out front. George was again at the forefront of the race, and Oubre also had a big steal that led to a transitional can.
  • Oubre picked up his sixth mistake when he inadvertently smuggled Garland and tried to get around him. Edwards were asked to end the game for him and immediately came with a deflection that led to a steal. He completed the offensive possession with a baseline section that saw him being buried and expanding the lead to eight.
  • After Mitchell answered with two on the line, George replied with one and-1, but missed out the free throw to keep it at eight. Garland cut it to five, then cut another free throw to four after the Sixers came up empty. Cleveland showed that it was far from over when they got another stop and another three to cut it into one. Maxey successfully pushed it back to three on the line, giving Cavs a chance at a draw with nine seconds left. An error communication saw them throw it from one sideline to another, giving the ball and playing to the Sixers.
  • Sixers are right back in action on Saturday as they go to Chicago to take on Bulls at 1 p.m. 20 et. Who is available and whether they win it, you will be a beautiful narrative character if this team still chases a play-in place.
