A businessman was raised out of a plane to clapping elves from his fellow passengers after launching a drunken tirade. The Jet2 aircraft to Turkey had just begun to tax to the runway at Manchester Airport when police were called because of Lewis Howarth’s terrible behavior, forcing the aircraft to return to Terminal 1.

Howarth had been violent against the staff, rose persistently during the security briefing and offended a stewardess when asked to tighten his seat belt, heard a court. The officers boarded the plane and talked to the cabin crew, who reported that Howarth was ‘very drunk’ and banded other passengers.

When they approached him, he seemed to be a matter of course. But his behavior changed rapidly as they escorted him towards the exit, Manchester Crown Court was told yesterday (January 23).

“He began to resist and tried to fight or assault those who escorted him,” said prosecutor Saul Brody. “He was brought down on the floor and handcuffed and was described as striking his head against the passengers and officers. He was held in the walking floor, and when he was out he continued to shout the scolding against the officers.”

In Bodycam recordings shown in court, hundreds of passengers could be seen clapping and cheering, with some recordings on their cell phones when Howarth was removed, reports Manchester Evening News.

His curse words to the officers could be heard. At one point, a valet tells him, “You were scared out of business, there were so many kids in there.”

“My kids are there … you’re wrong,” shed out howarth. “Nah f *** of you little rats. Do you (really) think I am not going on vacation?” he continued.

“No, you’re not,” the officer replied. When he was told he was arrested for being drunk in a plane, he began to laugh and said, “No, I am not, your little rat, your f *** d *** heads, Rotteb* ** *** S!

Jet2 staff then brought a wheelchair to be used to escort Howarth. When he was lifted into it, he tried to bite a valet and kicked out to another.

He was arrested and was later shown the recordings. He admitted he had been drinking half a bottle of whiskey before the flight, Mr. Brody said.

Howarth is said to have previous judgments of being intoxicated and disorder, insults, racist exacerbated harassment, assault on a police officer and failure to comply with court orders. His lawyer, William Staunton, said Howarth traveled with his family and his friend’s family when his friend “Peer pressed” him to get a drink because he was nervous about flying.

He had been ‘chasted’ by his fiancĂ© when she became aware of his state of intoxication, and it became the trigger of his behavior, he said.

“He had a hangover of all the hangover,” said Mr. Staunton. “He is ashamed deeply and has deep remorse. He wants to say sorry and it will not happen again.”

The court was informed that Howarth, a resident of Bolton who co-owned a construction company and had a successful career as an installer, had also contributed to the community through various works and had even appeared on TV for do-it-yourself nuts situations. “He is an asset to the community,” added Mr. Staunton.

However, Recorder Geoffrey Wells sentenced Howarth from Mobberley Road to 14 weeks in prison, saying, “This behavior was shocking. There is no excuse to be drunk when you go on a plane.”

“Your kids saw you behaving like that. What is that example? Absolutely shameful.”

“” Personpress? “What nonsense!” He further commented on it was a ‘complete lack of control’, a ‘complete lack of mindset’ and a ‘complete disclaimer of your responsibility as a father and a member of the public’. Howarth will serve half of his sentence in prison before being released on a license.

He admitted to boarding a plane while drunk, assaulting an emergency worker and ordinary assault of a relief worker.
