After having already written a surprising uprising after another in 2025 the Australian Open, 19th-seed American Madison Keys had one last fantastic match back in her, taking the world # 1 and two-time defense champion ARYNA SABALLENKA 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to win his first ever great title.

Keys’ remarkable victory on Saturday marked the first Grand Slam title for the 29-year-old American. It was eight years since Key’s last made a bigger final after she lost the US Open 2017 Open, a match she said she dwells in the years ago. Her former best Australian open finish was a decade ago when she reached the semi -finals in 2015.

Keys became the first American woman to won the Australian Open since Sofia Kenin in 2020.

Sabalenka had won the last two Australian openings – beyond the 2024 US Open – but Keys kept her on her heels from the moment the match started. Keys broke Sabalenka’s serving in the opening match and didn’t look back and took a possible 5-1 lead in the first set. Even after losing the service in his first attempt to close the set, Keys pulled out of the unanswered option by immediately breaking Sabalenka’s serving again.

Keys that were held in the first game of the second set and seemed in firm control over the match. However, Sabalenka remained calm and won the next five matches and won any lost confidence along with the momentum of the match.

It set the stage for a tense third set as both players held in the first 11 games. Up 6-5, Keys finally fought by Sabalenka’s servant to set up two championship points. Her powerful crosscourt winner on the second delivered her first title.

With the help of a strong serving and lineage, Keys marched through the tournament with one rebellion after another, four in total. The American beat # 10 Danielle Collins in straight sets during the third round before delivering an unexpected victory over No. 6 Elena Rybakina in round four. In the quarterfinals, Keys returned to beat No. 28 Elina Svitolina after dropping the first set. Then the key made the final after a fantastic No. 2 Iga Swatek in Semis in an exciting third-set tiebreaker.

Keys became pro 16 years ago and had a long increase to this moment. Her highest former world ranking was No. 7, back in 2016. After delivering the crown of her career against Sabalenka, she could be well on her way to a sudden rise in 2025.
