Photo of King in New Tartan released for Mark Burns Night | British news

The King’s new tartan was showcased in a photo released by the palace to mark Burns Night.

His green, red and blue kilt was made from King Charles III Tartan, a new range of cloth designed by the Scottish Tartans Authority in 2023.

It was created in recognition of the King’s passion for preserving the culture and traditions of Highland Dress and Scottish Tartans and marked his coronation.

“Wishing those celebrating a very happy #burnsnight tonight,” said one message from Royal Family’s Social media accounts along with the photo.

The photo, released on Saturday, was taken last autumn in the library at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire.

He wears a traditional brown sporran, beige jacket and waistcoat with his kilt.

Burns Night celebrates the life of the poet Robert Burns, widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, and is held on the anniversary of his birth in 1759.

The celebrations involve traditional Scottish food, including Haggis, and readings of Burns’ famous work.

The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a video on social media showing Scotland’s incredible nature and the work of its most famous poet.

“Celebrating the beauty of Scotland, the power of nature and the Poetry of Robert Burns. Happy Burns Night,” said a message sent with the video.

The Prime Minister also posted about the poet after hosting a Burns Night event at Downing Street earlier this week.

“Wishing Scots in the UK and around the world a very happy Burns night,” he said.
