Wizards vs Suns prediction, picks and odds for tonight’s NBA game

The Washington Wizards are in desperate need of a win (or a few) and their next assignment is the Phoenix Suns, who have yet to make an uptick on the offensive end, which could affect the totals for tonight’s matchup.

The Washington Wizards haven’t won a game since Jan. 1 and will try to snap a 12-game losing streak on the road Saturday, where they are just 1-19 on the year.

Despite a string of recent wins, it’s not as if the Phoenix Suns have exactly been sparkling – and we’ll highlight in our Wizards vs. The Sun’s predictions why it could lead to a low-scoring affair.

Let’s dig into some NBA player props and hand out some NBA picks on Saturday, January 25th.

Wizards vs Suns prediction

My best bet
Under 234.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
I’ve really been looking at this one from every angle, trying to find a reason to believe in the Washington Wizards here. After all, this Phoenix Suns team has incredible pedestrian marks on both sides of the ball and is winning by just 0.9 points per possession. 100 possessions this month.

Despite my best efforts, I just can’t see a way this offense is going to go. Phoenix has been a borderline top-10 three-point defense all season and has ranked in the top five over the last week, two weeks and the entire month of January.

The Wizards have taken the vast majority of their shots from outside this year and have forced the issue even more over the last month with 41.1% of their attempts from deep, the seventh-highest mark in the split.

The problem is that Washington has failed to hit those shots, and even in some good matchups in the last three games, has shot under 26% in each game and under 36% from the field overall. That gives me very little hope that it will be successful against an incredibly strong perimeter defense.

I mentioned that the Suns have also been pretty flat on offense, and while the Wizards haven’t done well on defense overall this season, they’ve at least concentrated on their opponents’ looks to the arc while owning the 10th best defense around the perimeter during the past week’s play, while it was 16th against the midrange, a technical improvement.

The total here is higher than you’d think given what we’ve laid out because the Wizards play at so much pace, but there should be little reason for Phoenix to match the pace as all those extra possessions are highly unlikely. fruitful for the road team.

That will force me to play Under here, contrary to the line movement we’ve seen against Over.

Below 234.5

Devin Booker Over 38.5 points, rebounds and assists

Bilal Coulibaly Over 11.5 points

This game should be a big one for Devin Booker, who just four games ago went for 37 points in a win over Washington. Despite the Wizards’ recent improvements against the 3, they continue to be one of the worst teams in the league against the mid-range jumper and have allowed a ton of looks from that zone – meaning Booker, who has been shooting the ball with high volume from it place, had to find space to score again.

More than that, though, he’s also improved his defense by nearly two steals per 100 possessions this month, which is important considering opposing shooters have come up with the second-most in the league against Washington.

The ball has to be in his hands and with that I like to play this combo prop. Washington has given up about 12 assists and rebounds per game to this position, both in the top three in the NBA, and that should open the door for another big night.

Speaking of an open door, Bilal Coulibaly has finally made the most of his minutes, averaging 14.3 points over his last three, and enters this one after scoring 13 in Phoenix the last time these teams met. As a guy who has taken only about 50% of his shots at the rim and just outside, he can take advantage of the lone area of the floor where Phoenix has ranked in the bottom 10 defensively this past week.
