Timothée Chalamet crushed his musical performance on SNL – what can this guy not ???

Okay, it will be unfair at this time – what Cannot Timothée Chalamet does?! He sings he acts, he dances, he is rapping, he is bilingual, he goes home to Kylie Jenner at night, he appears as the most sympathetic/related guy in the world, AND He gets Adam Sandler out of the house?!

He is really Lisan al-Gaib.

Seriously, but I thought Chalamet was fantastic as a host and musical guest at SNL last night. Say what you want about the overall quality of the sketches (which actually had a rather decent hitrate imo) But his musical achievements were both legit great.

He opened with a bold, rock n ‘Roll-driven cover of Dylan’s’ Outlaw Blues’ (where it almost felt as if he channeled the energy of someone like Liam Gallagher in his Parka/Massive shades) Directly into the popular/spoken-word ‘Three Angels’, which was a cool artistic choice, I think even Bob himself could have appreciated. So, for his second performance, he made a more withdrawn, soft Dylan tune: ‘Tomorrow is a long time’ – and crushed it too.

It’s not like Timothée Chalamet showcased a kind of voice from the sky you’ve never heard before, and he’s not a guitar virtuos of any kind, but he’s just an extremely solid performer all around and obviously has “it” – and you can’t learn it.

So many talented, experienced artists have done much worse on the SNL sound scene. It is not easy to deliver a great performance there – but the chalamet certainly managed it. Thank you to him for having balls to try to pull double duty, and a big hat off for a good job.

PS Here is his monologue….
