Commanders and Bills are the popular picks for the conference championship and Super Bowl

The Commanders are a popular pick to win today’s NFC Championship Game, which will be played on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles this afternoon.

Each week of the regular season and postseason, SB Nation surveys email fans of all 32 fanbases. In this week’s national email poll, fans were asked to pick the point-adjusted outcome of the Commanders-Eagles game.

Respondents chose the underdog commanders to cover a 6.5-point spread with a ratio of about 2 to 1. While picking against the spread is slightly different than predicting outright winners, the response indicates that the majority of respondents either expect Washington to win or finish within a score of the Eagles.

Here at Hogs Haven, we asked a similar poll question. The results were very robust in favor of the commanders.

72% of Commanders fans predicted an outright win against the Eagles, with only 13% expecting the Eagles to cover the betting spread.

Commanders fans and Eagles fans were each asked to predict the over/under against 47.5 points. Both fanbases went strong for ‘over’.

Each team has played two playoff games. The Commanders won by scores of 23-20 and 45-31, while Philly won by scores of 22-10 and 28-22. With Philly averaging just 25 ppg and Washington averaging 34 points per game. battle in the playoffs, it’s understandable why fans are so bullish on expecting the two teams that average 59 ppg in the playoffs between them to go over the mark, but it should be noted that both teams fell short of the mark in the wild card round , where the Commanders-Bucs game reached 43 points, while the Philly-Green Bay game reached a total combined score of just 32 points.

AFC Championship

There is another game on Sunday to decide which AFC team will play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in New Orleans two weeks from today.

In the national email survey, fans again chose the underdog to cover the spread.

With a narrower spread of only 1.5 points, fans were consistent in the ratio of approx. 2 to 1 in choosing the road team here. With such a narrow point spread, this is a strong indication that fans expect the Bills to win outright, similar to last week’s game where Buffalo beat the visiting Baltimore Ravens, who were similarly favored by 1.5 points.

Who are NFL fans across the country rooting for?

The national e-mail survey also asked fans which of the final four teams they would root for to win the Super Bowl. The most popular answer was the Buffalo Bills; The least popular answer was the Philadelphia Eagles. Honestly, I had thought the commanders might have been the sentimental favorite here.

It appears fans nationally aren’t interested in a rematch for Super Bowl LVII that followed the 2022 season in which the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35 in Arizona.

A rematch of Super Bowl XXVI between Washington and Buffalo that followed the 1991 season, which the Redskins won by a score of 37-24 in Minneapolis, appears to be one that a majority of respondents would be interested in seeing.

The NFC Championship game between the Chiefs and Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m. 15 today, January 26, 2025. Buffalo-Kansas City matchup in the AFC Championship Game starts at 18:30.
