A disappointing update on ‘One Piece’ season 2 on Netflix

Netflix shows are known for their very long gaps between seasons, though I suspect that’s not exclusive just to this service in this day and age of streaming. But now we have news that another Netflix hit series will likely have at least two years between seasons, if not more.

It would be a piece of season 2, and thanks Some Netflix leaked informationwe have confirmation that the show is coming in 2025, but it is all We have, and it seems to reinforce the idea that it’s coming later in the year, if not right at the end.

Garp actor Vincent Regan previously said it was targeting a Christmas 2025 release, but other sources ended up saying 2026 was more likely. Now Netflix’s own Tudum site, when talking about a separate LEGO collaboration, said that new episodes would arrive later in 2025, when the article is now taken down but archived here. Considering this is an official Netflix site, yes, we should put a lot of stock into it.

One Piece Season 1 debuted on Netflix on August 31, 2023. It doesn’t seem likely at this point, given all of this information, that it will debut before then in 2025, making it a full two-year wait between seasons. Sometimes the Netflix series gets away with a year and a half, but if the Christmas date of 2025 has happened, it would be 2.3 years, or so. I also think it’s possible that with Netflix taking that 2025 date, they’re actually not willing to commit to it yet, and it might actually be 2026 after all. Either way, it’s not good news for those hoping for a pre-return.

We’ve got plenty of non-Season 2 date-related news about the cast coming to next season. What we know so far is:

  1. Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9
  2. Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5
  3. Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine
  4. David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3
  5. Clive Russell as Crocus
  6. Brendan Murray as Brogy
  7. Werner Coetsser as Dorry
  8. Callum Kerr as a smoker
  9. Julia Rehwald as Tashigi
  10. Rob Colletti as Wapol
  11. Ty Keogh as Dalton
  12. Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha
  13. Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiluruk
  14. Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra
  15. Charithra Chandran as Nefertari Vivi (Miss Wednesday)
  16. Joe Manganiello as Sir Crocodile (Mr. 0)
  17. Lera Abova as Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday)
  18. Sophia Anne Caruso as Miss Goldenweek
  19. Mark Penwill as Chess
  20. Anton David Jephtha as Kuromarimo
  21. Rigo Sanchez as Monkey D. Dragon
  22. Yonda Thomas as Igaram
  23. James Hiroyuki Liao as Ipponmatsu

This is… a really huge list of add-ons. Granted, the anime and manga have plenty of characters, but the show tries to condense some of those stories on screen. Plus these join a bunch of returning characters, 12 in total if the current list is accurate. I’m really, really curious to see how these are all going to fit into eight episodes. Eight!

We’ll see how they do it, but yeah, this is going to be something to watch, that’s for sure. No wonder it takes so long.
